Our project partner Sjókovin (Blue Resource) celebrated its 5th anniversary on the 28th of March and marked the occasion by hosting a conference which focused on fisheries and aquaculture in the Faroe Islands. The event featured presentations from a range of participants including our Marine SABRES colleague and manager of Sjókovan, Unn Laksá, who discussed the challenges and opportunities within the blue sector. Unn highlighted in particular, Sjókovan's achievements and results over the last 5 years and outlined its ambitions for the next 5 years to come.
As part of the day's proceedings, Mirjam Carlsdóttir Olsen presented some of the results of the Marine SABRES project outlining the project's ambitions to make it easier to take better account of the entire ecosystem and the interaction between environment and society in the management of the ocean. Mirjam also presented some of the views of Faroese stakeholders on freshwater fisheries in the North Atlantic.
Blue Resource is a private, independent, not-for-profit research centre based in the Faroe Islands, that have strong competencies in socio-economic impact assessments, resource management, risk assessments, value chain and market analysis, policy and governance analysis. Their work on the Marine SABRES project has mainly been in relation to pelagic fishery in the arctic seas and how the countries that manage the fish stock can best meet the challenges that arise from changes in distribution and population size, which are caused by climate change, amongst other things.
We would live to congratulate our partners at Sjókovin on reaching this significant milestone and we wish them the very best in the years to come!
