Pictured above is our Marine SABRES colleague Catherin Chambers who participated in the recent 'MeCCAM - Measures for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in European Fisheries' project kick-off meeting and general assembly, which was held in the Faroe Islands last week. As part of the event proceedings, Catherine, who is also a member of the EAG, delivered a short presentation on the Marine SABRES project

The overall objective of MeCCAM is to develop, implement and recommend climate mitigation and adaptation solutions and increase the resilience and sustainability in the fisheries sector. MeCCAM employs an integrated multi-actor approach to deliver relevant and feasible results to support the fishing industry and policymakers.

The outputs of the project will include:

  1. decision support tools allowing fishers to mitigate and adapt to climate change

  2. innovative fishing gears to improve selectivity, fuel efficiency, and minimise habitat damage; and

  3. an environmental impact management software to reduce carbon emissions, and other impacts across the value chain.

The MeCCAM project is also coordinated by our Marine SABRES partner Unn Laksá (Stjóri - Blue Resource). Learn more about the project below:
