Our Marine SABRES colleagues Zacharoula Kyriazi (MaREI, UCC) and Ana Dinis (MARE-Arditi Madeira) will be participating in a workshop this month, as part of a two-day event for outreach and engagement with stakeholders aimed at "Connecting stakeholders across Macaronesia for better land-sea management". This is a cross-project collaboration between BlueGreen Governance, Marine SABRES and IMPLACOST, that aims to eventually establish a "Macaronesian Cooperation Network for Land and Sea".
The workshop, which will be delivered in both Spanish and English and has been organised by University of Portsmouth and University Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and hopes to achieve a good and clear understanding of the relevant issues in coastal management and land-sea governance in Macaronesia within its institutional, political, policy, social, and economic context.
During the workshop, relevant questions are jointly asked and answered by the researchers, decision-makers and stakeholders. The attendees are expected to work together, examine evidence, define informed outcomes and reach conclusions.
This will allow for:
Exploring the available scientific evidence about the issue(s) at stake
Identifying the issue(s) of major concern,
Mapping the institutional landscape and wider socio-political context (e.g., the range of stakeholders affected by the issue),
Learning about the varieties of policy approaches (e.g., existing policies, current alternatives and emerging trends), and
Generating policy considerations.
Ana and Zacharoula will be participating at this event in person to represent the Marine SABRES project to share insights, and hopefully collect participant feedback on the current work being delivered in the project in relation to governance.
This event offers a unique opportunity for participants and facilitators to collaborate on the development of policies that enhance the protection of the coastal areas of the Canary Islands, a fundamental step toward a more sustainable and diverse future. Furthermore it will produce a policy brief to inform decision-makers from European, national, and sub-national levels.
